It is the function of the Intensive Care unit (ICU) to support the other services of Fremantle Hospital, whenever reasonable and proper. It is an autonomous unit caring for the critically ill patients of Fremantle Hospital and its catchment area.

Admission

Admission to the unit is by referral and each individual patient should be discussed with the duty consultant in ICU.
Patients with acute, non-terminal illnesses will be considered for admission. The medical condition should have a reversible component with the prospect of recovery, this will be taken into consideration when determining whether or not to admit a patient.

The ICU caters for nearly all types of medical and surgical critically ill patients.
