Fremantle Hospital was the scene of a search and rescue training exercise last Friday.

Fire officers, along with fully-equipped trucks from the Fremantle Fire Station, had the task of ‘rescuing’ three people from a service tunnel adjacent to D Block.

Station Officer Darryl Hoad said the training was primarily a breathing apparatus exercise designed to test the endurance, knowledge, communication and thinking-processes of the firefighters.

“The training went extremely well. They worked and communicated well with each other, and extracted the casualties in a very fast and safe manner,” he said.

The exercise also provided an excellent opportunity for the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) to become more familiar with the site and will be of significant benefit to Fremantle Hospital should there be any future on-site emergency.
