Multidisciplinary Pain Treatment and ManagementThe Unit is running 2 multidisciplinary programmes at present.STEPS (Self-Training Educative Pain Sessions)A clinical trial four module programme run over two days by the pain team (Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Clinical Psychologist, Pain Specialist, Rheumatologist) providing information and skills in a broad pain management plan designed to optimise treatment outcomes for patients with pain. A written referral is required from a health professional. There are some exclusion criteria and patients will be asked to complete paperwork before they attend. PUMP (Pain Understanding and Management Programme)An intensive four week multidisciplinary pain management programme designed to improve patient’s physical function and coping capacity when dealing with ongoing pain. A written referral from a health professional is required and patients are assessed for suitability and will be required to attend the STEPS course as a programme orientation. Medical Pain TreatmentThis includes pharmaceutical and surgical treatments for chronic pain conditions. Patients who attend for medical management and treatment at the Fremantle Hospital Pain Medicine Unit would normally do so following attendance in our STEPS programme. It is our aim to provide all treatment in a multidisciplinary context, which also encourages patients to be fully involved in the management process, to ensure the highest possible level of improvement in symptom control and capacity to function normally. Clinical Psychology Outpatient ClinicHealth professionals can refer patients for assistance with the manaagement of chronic health related problems and comorbidities or for assessment of patient suitability for surgical procedures.
